CANDEY
Building a data-driven law firm for growth

CANDEY is a specialist litigation and dispute resolution law firm with offices in London and New York, working with clients across the globe. Known for its ambitious and forward-thinking approach, the firm has built a reputation for being innovative, agile, and highly responsive to client needs.

As the firm continued to grow, the leadership team recognised that their existing technology was no longer supporting the level of performance, visibility, and scalability they wanted.

Their ambition: To modernise for growth

Managing Partner Ashkan Candey wanted to create a more connected, data-driven firm that could scale efficiently while continuing to deliver exceptional client service.

The firm needed better access to real-time operational and financial insight, alongside a modern platform that would empower fee earners with the information they needed to make faster, smarter, more commercial decisions.

At the same time, CANDEY wanted to reduce its reliance on manual administration and create a more agile operating model that could support continued growth.

The challenge - when legacy software starts holding you back

Before moving to Tessaract, CANDEY was operating on an ageing, on-premise legal matter management system that struggled to support the needs of a modern law firm.

The firm’s previous system relied heavily on manual processes and lacked the flexibility needed to adapt as the business evolved. Reporting was difficult, time-consuming, and dependent on back-office teams manually interrogating data and producing reports for fee earners and leadership teams.

As the business grew, this became increasingly unsustainable.

Previously the product that we had required manual changes, manual implementation, and so I was paying for back-office staff to interrogate the information and present it in a way that was readily understandable.

The lack of accessible real-time data also created operational bottlenecks. Fee earners relied on support teams for information, limiting responsiveness and making it harder to scale efficiently.

When I first joined the business we were less than half the size we are now. Back then, fee earners would just come to the accounts team or support team for reports and data. Since we have grown, suddenly that’s just not feasible to do.

Why CANDEY chose Tessaract

CANDEY selected Tessaract.io because the platform offered a modern, cloud-native approach that aligned with the firm’s ambitions for growth, agility, and operational visibility.

The firm was particularly drawn to Tessaract’s ability to provide real-time reporting, configurable workflows, and intuitive access to business intelligence for fee earners across the firm.

Equally important was Tessaract’s collaborative approach and willingness to develop a platform around the real-world needs of law firms.

Working with Tessaract has been a revelation. Communication has been excellent throughout. We were attracted to them because they’re keen on developing a product that is exactly what law firms need.

Leadership teams have gained far greater visibility into individual and team performance, helping the firm operate more efficiently while continuing to scale.

The firm has also significantly improved operational efficiency by reducing manual reporting processes and giving teams access to intuitive, real-time dashboards and reporting tools.y modernising its practice management platform, CANDEY has created a more agile and scalable operating model, enabling the firm to remain cost efficient while continuing to deliver a high level of service to clients.

Legal tech insights from the Tessaract team

Is technology becoming a deciding factor for potential employees?

Recruiting and retaining talent remains a persistent challenge for mid-size law firms. They are competing with larger firms that can often offer higher salaries, structured career progression, and more established remote working options.

What processes are mid-market law firms automating and where should you start?

One of the greatest benefits of modernising your practice management software is the ability to automate more processes across your firm. Automation helps streamline operations, eliminate workarounds, and reduce manual tasks that otherwise occupy fee earners and support staff’s precious and often, expensive time.

Building the perfect tech ecosystem: Why a best-of-breed stack often beats the all-in-one myth

It’s easy to understand the appeal of the one ring to rule them all software: one partner, one login, one support contact, one magic piece of kit that delivers everything you ever wanted…

The hidden cost of workarounds. How legacy legal practice management systems are quietly holding your law firm back

A workaround is a temporary fix to a process that's been used by permanent staff for years. It’s when three systems, two spreadsheets and a very patient person do the job of one piece of software.

Beyond features: How to choose legal practice management software that delivers real outcomes

When it’s time to choose a new Practice Management System (PMS), it’s tempting to start with a checklist of features. Every demo looks impressive, every vendor promises the world — and before long, you’re comparing dashboards instead of results.

Is your legal Practice Management Software holding your SME law firm back? 16 questions to make sure your PMS is pulling its weight

Before diving headlong into new legal practice management software, it’s probably a good idea to first gauge if your PMS is in line with modern standards and expectations to highlight any glaring challenges worth worrying about.

Essential types of analytics and reports for your law firm's success

According to “Big Data: The Management Revolution” by Andrew AcAfee and Erik Brynjolfsson, the success of a business depends largely on how it is able to collect, process and interpret data from a multitude of sources. Due to this, organisations are now using technological tools to explore how their data can be used for good. One such essential technological tool in the legal industry is analytics and reports.

Demystifying data migration, it’s not as scary as you might think

In our discussions with SME firm leaders, nervousness around the daunting challenge of data migration–or so it is perceived to be–is often the reason given for not considering a move away from a legacy legal Practice Management System (PMS) to a cloud-native solution.

The true cost of failing to be cloud-first

Digital transformation through a cloud-first strategy is now essential for law firms to stay competitive and grow their businesses, says Mike Hinchliffe, General Manager EMEA at Tessaract

The fundamental guide to client onboarding

A precursive report found that 82% of organisations believe their onboarding approach to be a value driver. Meanwhile, 74% have a dedicated team for customer onboarding. In the same report, over half of the survey respondents said they believe improving their client onboarding process will enhance the enterprise's overall performance.
